Practical Tips for Visiting Zagreb
Zagreb is a welcoming city that blends Central European charm with a Mediterranean spirit. The local currency is the Euro (EUR), and most places accept both cash and major credit cards. English is widely spoken, especially in restaurants, hotels, and shops.
In February, Zagreb tends to be cold, with average daytime temperatures between 3–8°C, and nights often dropping close to freezing. Snow is possible, so bring a warm coat, sturdy shoes, and layers to keep comfortable while exploring the city.
While in Zagreb, don’t miss the chance to sample some traditional Croatian food and drinks. Popular dishes include štrukli (a baked pastry filled with cheese and cream), čevapi (grilled minced meat served with flatbread and onions), and purica s mlincima (roast turkey with a traditional pasta-like side). For a sweet treat, try kremšnita, a custard and cream slice beloved in the region. To drink, enjoy a glass of locally produced wine, or try rakija, a strong fruit brandy that often comes homemade.
Zagreb is also known for its café culture—take time to enjoy a coffee on one of the many lively terraces and soak up the city’s relaxed atmosphere.
