Base4NFDI: Fostering A Cross-Disciplinary Service Landscape for the German National Research Data Infrastructure
Base4NFDI is a joint initiative by the 26 consortia of the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), aiming to develop essential cross-disciplinary basic services that enable FAIR data practices. Sandra Zänkert, a Liaison Officer at Base4NFDI, presented a lightning talk earlier this year at IDCC25 that has been drafted into a brief report that introduces the Base4NFDI approach, outlines the decision-making and support processes, introduces current service candidates, shares early experiences and challenges, and provides an outlook on sustainability and international interoperability, particularly with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
The report can be read on the IJDC website.

As a project partner, Clara Lines, Research Data Specialist (DCC) introduced the DCC workshops, held regionally across the UK alongside DAFNI roadshows, as well as Innovate UK’s Digital Twins Energy Grids workshop. ...and finally
We say goodbye this month to Don Stuckey, who joined our DMPonline development team in April 2023. Don brought a new perspective and skills to the team and has made many valuable contributions during his time with us, some more visible to users and others relating to our infrastructure which are invisible but nonetheless critical. We wish Don well as he leaves to pursue an MSc here at Edinburgh. I’m glad to say that we have already recruited a replacement for Don who will be starting with us next month.
We welcome back Daniel Turner following his absence on parental leave.
Finally it would be remiss of me not to draw your attention to the article above about our recruitment of a research data specialist, providing cover during the maternity leave of Clara Lines and Dominique Green. The DCC is a welcoming and diverse place to work and provides the ideal opportunity to develop your skills and networks. If you aren’t interested yourself please draw this to the attention of someone who might be.
Kevin Ashley, DCC Director
