Results from the “DMPonline demo sessions: what will work for you” survey

Thank to all participants that took a part in our recent survey. Magdalena in this blog post summarises the results of your answers.

Dear all! Thank you for taking a part in our recent survey about DMPonline demo sessions. Although I was collecting feedback over very quiet August – I still received plenty of responses (36 total) and based on these I was able to analyse your answers and start to think about our first DMPonline demo session which will be starting in two weeks time!

We asked you 5 questions:

1, Do you find the idea of demo sessions useful

2, Would you benefit more from showing functionalities for users or admins?

3, Which area would you like us to start with?

4, Could you tell us which days times will work the best for you?

5, Do you have any other ideas or comments?

1, Do you find the idea of demo sessions useful?

I was having this idea based on joining our recent usability testing interview where I noticed that some of the basic functionalities are sometimes not well understood or even missed. We do have written guidance and also video tutorials but I thought that launching ‘live’ sessions could provide you more insight into the functionality, discuss the functionality with fellow users and asks us questions directly. It is great to see a big interest in these demo sessions.

2, Would you benefit more from showing functionalities for users or admins?

During our user groups some of the admins have pointed out to me that they are very new in using DMPonline and sometimes having more explanations for users would be quite beneficial. This is why I was curious to see whether there will be an interest in doing tutorial also from the users perspective but the preference was to show the functionality for both – admins and users where 69% of you voted, followed by 31% of you who voted only for administrators. Hence, based on your answers I will do my best to cover relevant functionalities if applicable from both perspectives.

3, Which area would you like us to start with

I was very curious to see whether there will be an area or specific topic you will be most interested in and it seems that providing feedback on plans is something we should start with. Each month we will cover some specific feature, and if there was voting which resulted in similar results prior the session, I can run a quick poll on Twitter or share link with you via email where you could share your preference. Another way to choose a preference would be at the end of the demo session, although this would disadvantage those who could not attend the session on the day.

4, Could you tell us which days times will work the best for you

Question 4 and 5 were asked together, but for reporting purposes I have grouped them into two separate categories. The preference is for Tuesday mornings, so I will try to run the sessions on Tuesday mornings and occasionally some other days. These sessions will be recorded and I will create a new playlist on YouTube, but the benefit of these will be really in joining them online if possible so you can ask your questions.

You are interested with integration with other systems, which is something that is sometimes covered in our DMPonline drop-in sessions which I would highly recommend to join in the future, and you can also listen to the recorded sessions in our YouTube playlist and read a summary from the past year in this blog post. We will provide you a space during our DMPonline demo sessions where you can chat to the fellow users where you can also exchange your knowledge around the integrations and workflows. When we release new functionality, we tend to do short “how to videos” but we can also cover these in our demo sessions. If you have any further specific comments or ideas, please feel free to drop us an email to dmponline@dcc.ac.uk and we will get back to you.

I am very grateful for all the feedback and to all participants, and I am looking forward to our first DMPonline demo session on 15th September at 10:30 UK time - Gotomeeting
