Because good research needs good data

Hello from Dominique Green - DCC's new Research Data Specialist (Training Lead)

Dominique | 22 March 2022

Hi all! I’m Dominique and I joined DCC (Digital Curation Centre) as a Research Data Specialist in February of this year. I’m leading DCC’s skills development programme.

I’m from the United States. I moved to Scotland in 2014 to do a PhD at the University of Edinburgh and was awarded my degree in 2020. My dissertation used ‘big’ data to explore multidimensional disadvantage in the U.S. Before joining DCC, I was a data scientist/manager working with an international consortium that investigated socio-biological drivers of antibiotic resistance in East Africa. Before this and during my PhD, I was a data lead for an equality and diversity initiative with the University’s Information Services Group. I’ve also spent some time as a guest lecturer and academic tutor for a range of topics related to data analysis and its use in the social sciences. I am fortunate to have experience working with the academic and professional services parts of the University. One thing that's clear for me writing about my work history is that I love working with data. In this new role, I have this cool opportunity to help others develop skills in areas/topics that I’ve had the privilege of doing in practice.

Random (and maybe fun) facts about myself: I also used to play the clarinet and piano growing up. My favourite song to play was The Entertainer by Scott Joplin.

I’m excited to be a part of the DCC team! This past month working with everyone just shows what a special team it is.
