RDA Europe/DCC Training

Developing Research Data and Software Management Policies

Next month we will be delivering a series of online training sessions on developing research data and software management policies in partnership with Research Data Alliance Europe.

Liise Lehtsalu, Senior Science Officer at Research Data Alliance (RDA) Europe, who will co-lead the workshop programme, shared her thoughts on the upcoming training:
“This workshop gives the participants the opportunity to work on their institutional policy, receive tailored feedback and dedicated time for questions. Successful institutional research data and software management policies are context specific, and we support participants with the development of such policies.”

One ticket can provide up to three places for colleagues from the same organisation on the training course. Book your place now.

Updated Skills4EOSC Catalogue of Open Science career profiles and Minimum Viable Skillsets released
Skills4EOSC has developed a comprehensive map of different career profiles for Open Science, and defined Minimum Viable Skillsets (MVS) for each. This report which was published earlier in June, provides an updated version of the MVS and describes lessons learned from their application. This version also introduces a new MVS for Digital Collections Curators and Scholarly Communication Specialists.

Open Science Festival '25

In-person: Vienna, 8-9 September 2025

This year the University of Vienna, the OpenAIRE Austrian National Open Access Desk (NOAD), will host the Open Science Festival from 8th to 9th of September 2025, which builds on a concept from the Netherlands.

The Open Science Festival is all about the diversity of open science, how it is practiced, and what value it brings to researchers, universities, and society. Scientists, lecturers, research support staff and decision-makers come together here. It connects those who are already committed to Open Science with those who are looking for an introduction to the topic.

Register now via the Open Science Festival website.

...and finally

We are currently in the last few weeks of our work in the Skills4EOSC project which has been ably led by colleagues from GARR in Italy. The project continues over 20 years of work at the DCC in building skills and capacity in digital curation and open research, from DC101 through EOSCPilot and our current training collaboration with RDA Europe (described elsewhere in Pipeline) and many other activities in between. I’m proud of our contributions to this project and of its work more generally. Outputs such as the MVS profiles and the FAIR-by-design methodology have already generated significant interest; the many self-paced courses being made available, and the competence centre network are other noteable sustainable results.

Skills4EOSC gave us the opportunity to work with many partners that we had not had the opportunity to engage with before; many of those partnerships have already resulted in further cooperative activities beyond the project. We were able to share our own knowledge on developing and delivering training in this area, and learn from others who brought their unique skills and expertise.

We have further work planned in the area of skills and capacity for open science and data management and in the meantime you can always engage us to deliver training for your organisation.
