DCC Unlocks Open Science
Chris Rusbridge | 16 September 2010
The Research Information Network (RIN) and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) have published the results of research undertaken by the DCC into the benefits and barriers to using ‘open science’ methods. The investigation aimed to identify what motivates researchers to work (or want to work) in an open manner with regard to their data, results and protocols, and whether advantages are delivered by working in this way. From a series of case studies the reasons why researchers may wish to work openly were used to categorise a set of degrees of openness, including how far it is practical to pursue open working at different stages in the research process.
