Because good research needs good data

Ariadne Issue 64 highlights issues in data curation

Kevin Ashley | 20 August 2010

Ariadne Issue 64, published today, contains a number of articles of particular interest to those concerned with research data curation.

Dorothea Salo writes on 'Retooling libraries for the data challenge', evaluating the extent to which academic libraries are prepared to deal with the challenges of research data curation, whilst Brian Westra describes how the data services needs of science research staff at the University of Oregon were assessed in "Data Services for the Sciences: a needs assessment." Brian used the DCC's DAF tool as guidance, as well as other sources such as Purdue and UIUC's work on data curation profiles.

Event reports include one from Datacite's first summer meeting, which took place in June 2010 in Hannover, and coverage of the Blue Ribbon Taskforce symposium on sustainable digital preservation and access.

There's also a great deal of more general interest, including a particularly insightful report from Intute as it enters its final year, looking at successes and achievements as well as lessons learned.
